ponyboy recently started reading girls to the front because he decided that he is completely uneducated about the riot grrrl movement. he’s not very far in the book so mostly he just has a lot of questions like, can he consider himself a riot grrrl if he’s never listened to bikini kill and probably wouldn’t care for them? because he is a male guinea pig who makes his female owner feed him and clean his home, is he buying into stereotypical gender roles or is it out of his control because he doesn’t have thumbs? when he forces himself on the teddy bear that hangs out near his cage, is he perpetuating rape culture or simply being an un-neutered animal? can he be a true feminist if he’s a male or, more importantly, can he be a true feminist if he is a guinea pig who doesn’t have the brain capacity to understand planned parenthood rights and he can’t participate in slut walk because he is too busy shitting all over the floor and then eating it?
